08416 is the Stoke yard pilot as 25276 has just arrived with a trip working from the BSC Shelton works at Etruria |
25218 is running light on the Down main at Bescot whilst 40181 is trundling down the Up & Down Goods line with 4S50 Dudley-Glasgow freightliner. The 40 will come off here and return to the holding sidings. The fresh power should be a class 86 and a class 87 which would have recently arrived from Wolverhampton off Down Euston services. It was practice to put the 87 "inside" as the 86 with dual brakes would be a more useful loco to pinch in those days of vacuum braked overnight services. |
33111 spent a weekend "buried" on the holding sidings at Bescot surrounded by class 20s. Adjacent roads see 20148 and 20143. |
56047 stabled on Bescot Holding Sidings in the early morning sun. |
56102 shares a siding with a class 87 as she is prepared for another duty. |
56117 passes through Walsall on her way to work |
83005 is in the loco siding, manned up ready to work 1S19 Bristol-Glasgow sleeper forward from Birmingham New St. The sleeper had to use platform 5, the only road long enough to cope with 16 Mk1 coaches. this loco siding has now been converted into platform 4c for Stour Valley local services. |
83012 "roars" through Nuneaton with a mixed rake of stock |
86244 proceeds cautiously through Oldbury Station during it's transformation into Sandwell & Dudley. |
A "JA" and a "KB" on BS shed !! The Southern Region was a master at using codes, the traction being no exception. The class 73s were known as JA for 73/0 and JB for 73/1. Similarly the 33 were KA, the Push-Pull variant being known as KB. This pairing of 33116 & 73002 brought the Severn Valley Express railtour up from Waterloo to Kidderminster for the SVR, then visited BS for servicing. |
A class 105 Cravens 2 car unit works a Walsall-Birmingham service through the middle of the Bescot complex |
